Dr.M.Govindan was appointed as first Principal w.e.f 15.01.1992 and the first batch of BAMS course was started on 15.01.1992 with an intake capacity of 30 students in a year.  35 acres of land was sanctioned to Govt. Ayurveda College, Kannur at Kadannappally Village and Kannur Taluk and District for the construction of buildings for College, Hospital, Hostels, Quarters etc.   The functioning of the College has been shifted to the newly constructed building at Pariyaram with effect from 01.06.1998. A 150 bedded College Hospital has also been functioning under this College at Pariyaram for imparting clinical training of BAMS & PG students and also for House Surgeons.   Govt. of Kerala and Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi have issued orders to enhance the BAMS seats from 30 to 40 seats from 2002-03 onwards and from 40 to 60 seats from 2018-19 Academic year onwards.

Moreover, 2 PG courses in Kriyasareera and Roganidana with an intake capacity of 5 students in each course were started in 2002-2003 and seating capacity was enhanced by Govt. of Kerala from 5 to 9 and 5 to 8 respectively and PG courses in Salyathantra, Salakyathantra with 6 seats  and Rasasasthra & Bhaishajyakalpana with an intake capacity of 7 seats were started from the Academic year 2020-21.  14 Departments are functioning under this College.  Moreover, a 150 bedded hospital is also functioning under the College to impart clinical training to the BAMS and PG, Diploma and Para medical students.

Dr.Sindhu C is working as Principal of Govt. Ayurveda College, Kannur, Pariyaram from 15.06.2021.  Name of former Principals worked during the period from 1991 to till date are given in a separate statement.
