The Department of Kaumarabhritya is one of the major departments in this institution.  This department deals with child health care.

Children are the future adults.  They are in a continuous phase of growth and development.  But various factors lead to a variety of health problems causing phusical and mental strain to the children.  Thus efficient paediatricians need to emerge to tackle these challenges.  This department deals with the maintenance of normal growth and development process of children and also the management of various disorders affecting the paediatric population.  The main academic goal of our department is to provide intense theoretical knowledge to the students and to shapen their clinical skills.  The equally important other aim is to provide cost effective and quality healthcare for the sick children approaching our hospital.

FUNCTIONING OF THE DEPARTMENT

  1. Classes for B.A.M.S. Students.We are conducting classes for  B.A.M.S. final year students (2 hours per week, Total 100 theory hours and 210 practical hours), as per the university syllabus.
  2. Practical classes for  B.A.M.S. Students are taken at OPD & IP sections of this hospital (from 8 am to 11 am).

a) OPD :

In the OPD treatment is given to public as well as clinical training for students.  There are 6 days OPD per week.  About 15-20 patients per day hailing from Kannur and Kasargode districts approach our department for management of various ailments affecting children, including respiratory allergies, bronchial asthma, malnutrition related problems, skin disorders, gastrointestinal problems, neurological and developmental disorders like cerebral palsy, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental retardation, language disorders and learning disability.

b) IPD

The inpatient department provides facility for treatment of 10 patients at a time.  We admit patients who suffer from recurrent and severe respiratory tract infections, skin problems, and various neurological and developmental disorders like cerebral palsy, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental retardation, language disorders and learning disability.  We provide internal medications and modified panchakarma therapies taking into consideration the age group, seasonal variations and severity of the disease.  All panchakarma procedures are done with exquisite care and scientific technique in the college hospital, supervised by doctors of this department.
